WHEREAS, Law Day is an acknowledgment and celebration of the heritage that is our nation’s and state’s system of justice, liberty, and equality under the law; and May 1 has been declared by Congress to be Law Day; and
WHEREAS, the American Bar Association declared “Law in the 21st Century” as the theme for this year’s Law Day celebrations; and
WHEREAS, the Nevada Judiciary has made remarkable progress in utilizing technology to make Nevada courts more accessible and more responsive to the citizens of the state and others who pursue justice in our courthouses; and
WHEREAS, programs such as “We The People” and mock trial competitions have brought the lessons of justice and the law to children in our classrooms; and
WHEREAS, it is important to underscore how the law and our legal process have contributed to the freedoms that all Americans of all ages share; and
WHEREAS, the justice system in Nevada – including the Judiciary, court staff, State and County Bar Associations, and attorneys and their staffs – works to ensure those same freedoms in Nevada; and
WHEREAS, on April 29, 2010, the Nevada Supreme Court, State and County Bar Associations, and school districts statewide will be conducting LAW DAY LIVE, an interactive presentation that utilizes technology to promote the principles of justice and the rule of law throughout Nevada;
NOW THEREFORE, the Nevada Supreme Court declares May 1, 2010, to be Law Day in Nevada and the days surrounding May 1 to be included in the Law Day celebrations.
