Chief Justice Michael L. Douglas receives The Liberty Bell Award for 2011 |
Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael L. Douglas, whose legal and judicial career has been marked by his dedication to ensuring access to justice for all, is the 2011 recipient of the Liberty Bell Award from the Clark County Law Foundation.
The Law Foundation's Community Service Committee presented the Liberty Bell Award to Chief Justice Douglas at the Clark County Bar Association luncheon on May 12. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, who was the keynote speaker, made the presentation.

Elko Courthouse centennial, first district judge Celebrated in May 4 ceremony |

LAW DAY 2011
A panel of the Nevada Supreme Court will be in Elko on May 4 to join with the Nevada Judicial Historical Society to celebrate the centennial of the Elko County Courthouse and commemorate the first District Court judge in Elko County.
The 1:30 p.m. ceremony at the courthouse, which will include the presentation of a commemorative plaque to Elko County by the Nevada Judicial Historical Society, is part of Nevada’s Law Day celebrations.

LAW DAY 2011 – The Legacy of John Adams
A high school teacher in Clark County will play a major role in this year’s Law Day activities – “role” being the key word here.
eff Hinton, Social Studies Department Leader at Northwest Career & Technical Academy, regularly dresses in period costumes to portray historic figures for his students. For the Nevada judiciary’s Law Day celebrations, he will wear American Revolution-era garb to portray John Adams, the second president of the United States.

Retired Justice Cliff Young to receive the Supreme Court’s Legacy of Justice Award |

The Nevada Supreme Court is presenting its 2011 Legacy of Justice Award to retired Justice Cliff Young during ceremonies Tuesday, May 3 at 11:15 a.m. in the Supreme Court’s Carson City courtroom.
Presentation of the award, for just the third time, will kick off this year’s Law Day events. Law Day was established by Congress in 1961 as the celebration of the nation’s commitment to the rule of law.
