2011 ABA Law Day - Outstanding Activity Award

9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2012

Law Day Live is an interactive Internet video forum linking high schools in three Nevada communities – Las Vegas, Reno, and Winnemucca.

The forum – which is being streamed live right here on the Supreme Court website – will focus on issues of privacy rights and the difficulties faced by the courts to keep their doors open and deal with today’s ever-growing caseloads.

The 2012 Law Day theme established by the American Bar Association is:

NO COURTS, NO JUSTICE, NO FREEDOM

Law Day Live will begin by looking at a privacy rights case that began as a confrontation between a Winnemucca rancher and a police officer investigating a domestic violence call.  The case made it all the way to the United States Supreme Court.  Watch Law Day Live to learn what happened.

WHAT:             Law Day Live, an interactive forum that will engage judges, lawyers, educators, and students in debate around the American Bar Association’s Law Day theme of NO COURTS, NO JUSTICE, NO FREEDOM. Watch Law Day Live here on the Supreme Court website.  The portal will be active 5 minutes before the webcast begins.

WHEN:              Thursday, April 26, 2012, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

WHERE:          Law Day Live will link panels at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno, Canyon Springs High School in Las Vegas, and Lowry High School in Winnemucca, but anyone with a computer can attend and participate.

WHO:                 Justice Nancy Saitta in Las Vegas, Justice James Hardesty in Reno, Judge Michael Montero in Winnemucca.

PARTICIPATE:    Students and members of the public across the state are encouraged to send us comments and questions during Law Day Live.

This year’s Law Day theme, No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom, underscores the importance of the courts and their role in ensuring access to justice for all Americans.

Open and accessible courts are the cornerstone of a free society. They are fundamental to our way of life.

People turn to the courts to provide them with a fair and impartial forum to reach a just result. The courts are where people go to have their rights protected, their injuries redressed, and their disputes fairly resolved.
